Training
Training kicked off with some wind, but once the sun came out it turned into a beautiful day to be outside with the dogs!
Our tracking K9s were hard at work navigating intersections and busy roads, pushing through distractions as they followed their missing person’s trail. Huge thank you to our hiders who volunteered to come out and hide for us.
Meanwhile, our HRD K9s were searching buildings, working tree lines, and clearing rubble piles.

Eau Claire Demo
Thank you to the Eau Claire Police Department for inviting Northstar Search and Rescue out to speak with your officers about search and rescue operations and the resources our K9 teams provide.
We also enjoyed participating in the mock search exercise and working alongside your team.
Training
We had an amazing training day before the heat set in!
A huge thank you to the kids from Orono High School who came out to hide for our K9 teams and watch the dogs work. Your help gave our teams valuable training opportunities, and we loved sharing what our dogs do with all of you!

Training
This morning we kicked off training with a review of report writing, sharpening the skills that help document every mission clearly and accurately. We then transitioned into K9 training, where the teams put in great work continuing to build and maintain their search skills. Always a productive day learning, training, and growing together.
HRD Seminar
K9 Raven and handler TJ recently completed a multi-day seminar hosted by the Center for Forensic Training and Education in Dayton, Ohio. The training focused on foundational problem-solving skills critical to the mission of locating human remains.

Training Day
Boat & Shoreline HRD Training
Another great day of training! Our K9 teams worked boat and shoreline Human Remains Detection (HRD), continuing to build and strengthen their skills in a variety of environments.
Training Day
Training started with a light wind, but the sun eventually came out and turned it into a perfect training day
Teams were challenged by strong winds pushing scent in every direction, making for some tough conditions. Despite that, both the tracking and HRD K9s worked through it and stayed on task.

Training Day
Training started off windy and ended with rain, but that didn’t stop these dedicated K9s!
We had some great distractions today — a baseball game and a soccer game — but the dogs stayed focused and worked hard through it all.
Training
Training day brought some challenges with strong winds blowing scent in every direction. Our tracking K9s worked hard to stay focused and locate their missing person. Meanwhile, our HRD K9s practiced working buried and elevated sources, continuing to sharpen their skills.

Training
Sun’s out and the warmer weather made for a great day of K9 training!
Our tracking K9s worked aged tracks, pushing through changing conditions to stay on the track. Meanwhile, our HRD K9s searched rock piles, sheds, and wooded areas as they worked to locate hidden sources.
Water Training
Last night was an incredible evening for some water HRD training! The K9s absolutely loved being out on the boat — ears flapping in the breeze and noses working overtime. 🌊🐕
We couldn’t have asked for better weather, and to top it all off, we were treated to a beautiful sunset while we trained. 🌅
